Industrial Products Network Update for Friday, January 19, 2024

OPERATIONAL PERFORMANCE
BNSF teams are confronting another round of winter weather across much of the northern tier of our network from Eastern Montana into Chicago and further south across the Plains. As we have reported, an outbreak of record-breaking cold temperatures, heavy snow, gusty winds and ice accumulations created significant service challenges across the Northern Corridor and central core of the network. BNSF teams made progress in service recovery during a brief return of favorable operating conditions midweek; however, another new round of winter weather during the next 48 hours may temporarily impede ongoing service recovery efforts. Wind chill advisories reach from the Dakotas as far south as Arkansas, with temperatures in Omaha, Nebraska, expected to reach -18 on Saturday morning. The subzero cold and snowy conditions will remain through the weekend with a return to above-average temperatures by mid-next week.

We appreciate your patience as we respond to disruptions. BNSF crews and equipment are working around the clock to restore service as quickly as possible. Additional resources continue to help improve train flows through these affected areas, and we expect a robust and rapid recovery as conditions improve next week.

The challenging operating conditions were reflected in our metrics; average car velocity was down versus the prior week and month, as was terminal dwell. Our local service compliance measure fell below 90%.

SERVICE EXPECTATIONS FOR THE WEEK AHEAD
Seasonable operating conditions are expected to return next week across much of the BNSF network. Winter storm advisories are in effect across portions of the Pacific Northwest and Northern California. Cold temperatures will also return to portions of Oklahoma and North Texas through the weekend. BNSF operations teams are monitoring conditions and are responding quickly to weather-related service challenges.

We thank you for your business and appreciate the opportunity to serve as your transportation service provider. We welcome your feedback and questions.
